Symptom

In Cribl Search, users added to a Usage Group cannot access a Dataset shared with a Team. Existing Team members can access the Dataset, while newly added users cannot.

Environment

  • Cribl Search in Cribl.Cloud
  • Team-based Dataset permissions

Resolution

  1. Verify that each affected user already exists as a Member in the Organization.
  2. Navigate to Products > Organization > Members & Teams.
  3. Select the Teams tab.
  4. Open the Team that has access to the Dataset.
  5. Add each affected user under Team Members.
  6. Select Add.
  7. Select Save.
  8. Navigate to Cribl Search.
  9. Select Data > Datasets.
  10. Open the Dataset’s Share action.
  11. Verify that the Team has Read Only or Maintainer access.
  12. Verify that the affected users can view and search the Dataset.

Note: Use Usage Groups to assign Search resource limits. Use Teams under Organization > Members & Teams to manage Team membership and Team-based access.

Cause

This can be caused by:

  • Adding users to a Search Usage Group instead of adding them to the Team that has Dataset access.
  • Assuming that a Usage Group grants Dataset permissions. Usage Groups control Search limits, such as concurrent searches, time ranges, results, bytes, executors, and running time.
